My Green Mattress has accomplished something pretty difficult in the organic mattress world. The family-owned company figured out how to make a fully eco-certified bed without the expensive price tag that typically comes with organic sleep products, and everything is manufactured in its Illinois factory. The Kiwi Organic Mattress is especially impressive. While some brands throw around terms like "eco-friendly" and "natural," this mattress backs up its claims with GOLS-certified latex and GOTS-certified cotton and wool.

As Business Insider Reviews' mattress expert, I've tested over 100 mattresses for our best mattress guide. After thoroughly testing the Kiwi, I can tell you it's a particularly good match for side sleepers and couples looking for a chemical-free solution without breaking the bank. Stick with me as I break down everything from how it handles temperature to whether you'll feel your partner tossing and turning at night.

Construction

A thick 2-inch latex layer and seven-zone pocketed coil system comprise the bulk of the Kiwi. My Green Mattress

The My Green Mattress Kiwi Organic Mattress showcases thoughtful construction with premium eco-friendly materials throughout its 10-inch profile. The mattress is GreenGuard Gold and Made Safe certified.

The soft, quilted GOTS-certified organic cotton cover creates a breathable, plush sleep surface. Beneath, you'll find a layer of GOTS-certified organic wool batting — a natural temperature regulator that wicks away moisture while serving as a chemical-free flame barrier. The comfort layer features 2 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, which has also earned OEKO-TEX certification for safety. This responsive latex offers gentle contouring.

The support core employs an innovative seven-zone pocketed coil system, engineered to deliver targeted pressure relief across different body regions. The coil configuration is especially notable around the perimeter, where a higher concentration of springs lends extra edge support.

This latex hybrid is available in all standard sizes from twin to California king plus full XL. I tested the queen.

Setup

The unboxing experience of the My Green Mattress Kiwi Organic was similar to other beds in a box. At 85 pounds for the queen, the bed requires a two-person setup — a factor worth considering when planning your delivery logistics. While My Green Mattress doesn't include setup instructions or a cutting tool, the process is intuitive: simply position the compressed mattress on your foundation and remove the vacuum-sealed packaging. I managed to remove the plastic by hand, though having scissors nearby would streamline the process.

The mattress expanded rapidly once freed from the plastic, achieving full height within minutes. Off-gassing was minimal, with only a mild initial odor that dissipated by bedtime — a testament to its natural materials. One notable limitation is the absence of a white-glove delivery service, meaning those requiring setup assistance must make other arrangements.

Comfort

I slept on the Kiwi Organic Mattress for 31 nights and found its "medium" firmness rating accurate, registering at about 5 out of 10 on my firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). As a side sleeper weighing 230 pounds at 6 feet tall, I experienced consistent comfort across multiple sleep positions. However, my sleep tracking data revealed slightly lower quality scores than my baseline (61 versus my typical 63, as measured by my Garmin watch).

The mattress showed impressive versatility. It accommodated my primary side-sleeping preference while remaining comfortable during occasional stints on my stomach and back. The surface offered balanced spinal alignment and pressure relief, though I noted sporadic shoulder stiffness.

Based on my experience, I recommend the Kiwi Organic for most sleep styles, especially those seeking a medium-feel mattress. Yet, heavier individuals (over 230 pounds) who primarily sleep on their back or stomach may benefit from a firmer surface for optimal support. The bed strikes an effective balance between support and sink, though individual comfort experiences may vary based on sleep preferences and body type.

Heat dissipation

Using my trusty laser thermometer, I tracked how well the Kiwi Organic Mattress handled heat throughout the night. The data tells an interesting story: when I got up each morning, the surface averaged 90 degrees Fahrenheit — just a touch warmer than typical mattresses, which usually hit about 89.5 degrees.

As for cooling down, the mattress performed right at the average. After getting up, the temperature dropped by 12 degrees within two minutes — exactly what we see with most mattresses. The organic wool and coil design should theoretically aid in cooling, but I had some warmer nights where heat retention was definitely noticeable.

If you tend to feel cold at night, you'll probably appreciate how this mattress holds onto a bit of warmth. But if you're a hot sleeper, you might want to either look at specifically designed cooling mattresses or plan to add some cooling accessories to make it work for you. The heat retention isn't dramatic, but it's something to consider if temperature affects your sleep quality.

Edge support

The edge support of the Kiwi Organic Mattress isn't horrible, but I expected better. Erin Brains

I ran two tests to measure edge support, which matters if you share a bed or often sit on the edge. First, I did a simple sitting test with a yardstick to measure how much the edge sinks. Then, I checked stability by lying on the edge and slowly rolling outward (think of it like trying to reach something on your nightstand).

The edges compressed more than I'd like. When sitting, they sank 4.5 inches — that's notably deeper than the 3-inch sink I usually see in beds. During my roll-off test, I could lean just past a 45-degree angle before losing stability — not terrible but not great either.

What surprised me was that the edge support wasn't more robust despite having tighter coils along the perimeter. While it's not a dealbreaker, it's worth considering if you're shopping for a smaller size. If edge support is high on your priorities, I recommend buying a larger size to give yourself a more stable sleeping space.

Motion isolation

To check if you'll feel your partner moving around at night, I ran two tests. First, I got technical with it — using a vibrometer (think of it as a super-sensitive motion detector) on one side of the bed while dropping a bowling ball on the other side to simulate someone moving. The readings showed that the Kiwi Organic Mattress absorbs movement better than most mattresses I've tested.

To double-check these results in a real-world scenario, I had my wife roll around on one side while I lay still on the other. I barely felt any movement. Combining individually wrapped coils and those cushy layers of latex and wool really does a great job of keeping motion contained. So, if you or your partner toss and turn or get up during the night, this mattress should help keep those disruptions to a minimum.

Trial period and warranty

My Green Mattress provides a 365-night sleep trial, which is much more generous than the industry standard. However, you need to keep the mattress for at least 30 nights before initiating a return — this is their mandatory "break-in period," designed to let your body fully adjust to the new sleep surface. If you decide to return it, you must coordinate with My Green Mattress to donate the unwanted bed to a local charity and supply donation documentation to receive your refund. While they refund your full purchase price, they don't cover donation costs or return shipping.

The warranty coverage spans 20 years, which is notably longer than the typical 10 years. Yet, there's some fine print to consider: Only the first 10 years provide full coverage, while years 11-20 run prorated, meaning you'll pay an increasing percentage of the replacement cost as time passes. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and sagging over 1.5 inches — fairly standard terms.

Cons to consider

The edge support fell short of expectations, with a 4.5-inch compression that exceeds the typical 3 inches in my testing. This is especially noticeable when sitting or lying near the perimeter, potentially limiting the usable sleep surface — a significant consideration for couples sharing smaller mattress sizes.

Temperature regulation was inconsistent during my testing. While not a major concern, hot sleepers may need extra cooling solutions.

The lack of white-glove delivery service presents a logistical challenge, especially considering the larger sizes can get quite hefty — a California king is 120 pounds. While the mattress is delivered to your door, you'll need to arrange setup assistance and handle the somewhat cumbersome unboxing process.

For heavier individuals, especially those over 230 pounds who prefer stomach or back sleeping, the medium firmness level may not offer adequate support for optimal spinal alignment, potentially necessitating a firmer sleep surface.

What are your alternatives?

The only other mattress for adults offered by My Green Mattress is the Natural Escape Organic Mattress. It's about $400 more expensive than the Kiwi and features the same materials and certifications. However, the Natural Escape packs in more pocket coils, has a three-inch latex layer as opposed to the Kiwi's two-inch, a firmer feel, and is designed to hold a higher weight capacity (750 pounds versus the Kiwi's 600). Heavier individuals and those seeking a medium-firm bed may want to opt for this bed instead.

My Green Mattress is a direct competitor to the Avocado Green Mattress. Like the Kiwi, the Avocado is a certified organic hybrid. However, it offers more firmness options (Plush, Medium, Firm). The Avocado sleeps notably cooler but has weaker motion isolation. While both supply excellent pressure relief, the Avocado has better edge support. The Kiwi's main advantage is its price — it's significantly cheaper and has a more straightforward return policy without the Avocado's $99 return fee and strict rotation requirements.

For an even more affordable sub-$1,000 option, consider the Awara Natural Hybrid. It runs firmer (medium-firm versus the Kiwi's medium) and excels for stomach sleepers, while the Kiwi better serves side sleepers. The Kiwi's motion isolation outperforms the Awara's, though the Awara handles temperature regulation better. It also has a better warranty (forever versus 20 years).

If you want edge support, the Birch Natural Mattress can't be beat. This latex hybrid tops our best organic mattress guide and features several eco-friendly certifications, including eco-Institut-certified Talalay latex. It's supportive enough for heavier individuals, and for a softer feel, you can add the plush topper for an extra charge. However, the Birch costs $400 more than the Kiwi and has a shorter trial period. Read our full Birch Natural Mattress review.

The bottom line

The author lies on his back on the My Green Mattress Kiwi.
The Kiwi Organic Mattress is a terrific option for couples and side sleepers, though it has its drawbacks. Erin Brains

After 31 nights on the My Green Mattress Kiwi Organic Mattress, I'm impressed with its solid mix of eco-friendly materials and practical comfort. Due to its medium feel and good motion isolation, it's a great match for couples and side sleepers. However, the edge support could be better, and hot sleepers might need extra cooling help. If you're looking for an organic mattress that doesn't sacrifice comfort, this one's worth considering — though heavier folks might want something firmer.
